Evacuations issued for growing wildfire near Lake Oroville

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. (KCRA) —
Evacuation orders have been issued Tuesday for a 80-acre wildfire burning east of Lake Oroville in Butte County, Cal Fire officials said.

Residents on Ponderosa Way and Lumpkin Road from Lake View Terrace to Feather Falls Fire Station 51. An evacuation warning was issued for people on Lumpkin Road from the Enterprise Bridge to Lake View Terrace.

The grass fire, dubbed the Ponderosa Fire, broke out just before 1:30 p.m. in the Robinson Mill area, near Ponderosa Way, Cal Fire tweeted.

A shelter is scheduled to open at 4:15 p.m. at Church of the Nazarene at 2238 Monte Vista Ave. in Oroville.

No additional details have been released.

A large plume of smoke produced by the fire can be seen from the Oroville Dam construction site, according to video from the California Department of Water Resources.
